Smile, You’re Living Longer!
So deal with it already, with Long-Term CareToons(TM)

This video describes a project to create cartoon signposts for longer-living seniors, their families, advisers, and policy makers (eBook).

In 1900, U.S. life expectancy was 50. Now it’s over 78 and rising. Lifespans are way up in other industrialized nations as well. We’ve got extra years of living to do! But there’s a catch, described in the video …

Our extra time is not necessarily quality time. For example, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, almost 70% of Americans over 65 will need long-term care services at some point. That’s tens of millions in the U.S. alone — hundreds of millions globally — not fit enough for tasks of daily living such as feeding themselves, bathing or dressing alone, or going to the bathroom without help.

Yet know-how is now at hand for —
• Extending the years of ability — by preventing or postponing heart disease, lung disease, crippling arthritis, cancer, and other adult-onset diseases including Alzheimer’s.
• Living happier, more productive lives even when disabilities come — through new senior-living and care options.

The information on the new senior options is vast and growing, but reading it can be time-consuming … and boring.
